Vodou on the Bayou

Sallie Anne Glassman was on the Magnolia Bridge last night performing her annual ceremonial headwashings for the eve of St. John’s Day. She is following in the footsteps of New Orleans’ most famous vodou priestess Marie Laveau, and continuing her ritual to bless the crops at this early point in the summer.

The Magnolia Bridge is used for many ceremonies, and this one draws perhaps largest crowd of folks from other neighborhoods.
